"The 2005 Whistling Eagle Vineyard Sangiovese also showed really good varietal character. The floral nose, with raspberries and dried herbs, is right in target, and oak adds a touch of vanilla. It performs well on the palate, with the dry tannin astringency you'd expect but without any hollowness. 'Cherries, tobacco, chocolate and cedar', Caillard noted. 'Ripe flavour and loose-knit tannins, finishing cedary and dry'. It drinks beautifully now, and should do so for several years."
